Week 1 Journal

This week I just did my best to get started! I signed up for the different groups and tools that are part of the #diffimooc. I read the articles on internet etiquette, the #diffimooc Connectivist Daily, and posts on other members' blogs about the articles they read. I found posts from @mrjosh33 , , , very helpful, informative and inspiring. The #diffimooc group and twitter were the best places for me to contribute to others by sharing our frustrations and successes. I shared a few of my diigo links, but mostly I felt that other people helped me and I really relied on other's posts for tips on how to get the job done.

Essential Question for Week One:  What are the characteristics I will need to be successful in this MOOC?

The characteristics I needed this week were patience with myself and others, perseverance in spite of slow internet, my confusion, and interruptions, and sticking to the basics (otherwise known as 'keep it simple, stupid'). I'm pretty sure if I stick to these characteristics I will get through this, hopefully for the better. Oh, and I did remember to have a little fun too, 'cause laughter really is a great survival tool!

  1. Karina - I feel you on the slow internet - makes this process more frustrating than it needs to be! I think a lot of people who are new to this feel they have nothing to contribute, but they are only focusing on what they know about the tools - and ultimately that's not what this will all be about. Initially, it's just figuring them out and getting to a bit of a comfort level with them, and then we start talking about teaching - and that's where everyone has something really valuable to give!
